A herd of zebras finally discovers where to drink water

Mobile safaris: a zebra's point of view of

It is not always easy being a zebra, you have to travel long distances, sometimes during dry season you are not able to find any nourishment after many kilometers walking but this is not enough. It is also necessary to have some water and when the rivers and lakes dry you have to use your hoofs to scrabble the hard soil in order to find it.

You shouldn’t be never alone though sometimes I’d prefer to, but keeping in large groups helps us to protect from predators, some friends of mine have gone to feed a herd of lions that was following us for three days, but if you are lucky enough not to fall into the jaws of one of them, then you can get the deserved prize.

Fortunately, this afternoon we found a pond where to drink some fresh water after an exhausting walking week, the herb on the savanna was mostly dry and it was not easy to find some fresh leaves, so we have had to settle for the bark of some acacia trees and, believe me, this is very hard to digest, so finally you need some water to deal with.

A group of tourists has been folowing us and other animals for the past three days on what they call “mobile safari”, a kind of tour in which they move fore several kilometers deep in the savanna and then, instead of coming back to the base camp, the staff goes before them in order to prepare a mobile safari camp and to have everything ready for dinner and night sleep. It seems they appreciate it a lot, every year we can see more and more tourist groups in mobile safari tours, must be something fun for them!

Kenya’s Masai Mara, maybe a paradise for tourists, but sometimes is not so easy place to live in for us the zebras, but I am happy to be again one of the survivals and I expect to be one of us for a very long life!
